project name: King Abdullah Financial District Mixed Use Tower
project location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
project date: 2010
client: Gensler, London
Vyonyx has supported the London office of Gensler architects with their competition winning entry for a mixed-use tower in the Financial District.
This particular project is a good example of the new QuickSilver service which we introduced at the beginning of the year and a few offices have been utilising already.
The architects provided us with limited data and a lot of freedom to represent their key concepts and ideas – the quickest possible way with the necessary impact.

Behind the Scenes.
Below is a quick break-down of the process of how images were created and a 3ds max screenshot. Only one light source was used to illuminate the scene- a sun and sky system with no exposure control. The final image was rendered using MentalRay’s Final gather with the almost default settings (apart from a few minor tweaks) ; no GI whatsoever.
To create the lights inside context buildings, we applied a technique described in one of our tutorials (in our tutorial section). A hand-painted texture asigned ti scattered boxes inside the buildings was used to create the illusion of randomly illuminated interior spaces.
That’s basically it!

Absolutely fantastic work!
Hi guys, Great renders. Curious to know how the daylight system and exposure was put together? MR daylight system like in your tutorial, I foloow the tut but for some reason it doesn’t come out like yours! What time of day do you set it?
Thanks in advance.
Jamie
Jamie, we will post some “behind-the-scene” images very soon.
Stay tuned!
Hi, thanks for sharing ! I’m wondering if the the clients (the architects) are allowed to change the concept after you made the first images. In other words, do you make drafts renderings for apporval or you deliver directly the final images ?
Yes, Philippe, we always send out draft images for approval.
Great work! And many thanks for the download resources. One question: Why does the screen capture from 3DS Max show “unregistered version”?
Shannon,
“unregistered version” means that a 30-days trial version has been used to take those screen shots. Hope that helps?
